WEC Worldwide: One Standard, One Mission — Saving Limbs Through Timely Referral and Expert Wound Care

Wound Expertise Center (WEC) | Neudebri® Certified Partner Network Different countries. One philosophy. Unified standards. Better wound care. Building a Global Network of Wound Expertise Centers A wound should never become a reason for losing a limb simply because the right care or referral came too late. At Wound Expertise Center (WEC), our vision is to establish an international network of competent wound-care professionals and healthcare facilities that share one philosophy: better preparation, earlier intervention, appropriate treatment, and continuity of care. Whether a WEC operates in Belgium, Kenya, the Philippines, or another country, every participating center will work toward the same professional standards through the Neudebri® Certified Partner Program. Our goal is simple: patients should know where to seek specialized wound care, and healthcare professionals should know where to refer them. What Does It Mean to Be a Neudebri® Certified WEC Partner? A Neudebri® Certified WEC Partner is a healthcare professional or facility that has successfully completed the required training, competency assessments, and certification process established by the Neudebri® Academy. Certified partners commit to implementing the Neudebri® wound-care principles and applicable clinical protocols within their professional scope and local healthcare regulations. Certification focuses on demonstrating competency in: Wound assessment: Identifying wound causes, tissue viability, infection risks, circulation problems, neuropathy, and healing barriers. Neuropathic wound management: Recognizing loss of protective sensation, pressure-related injuries, diabetic foot complications, and the need for offloading. Wound-bed preparation: Applying appropriate cleansing and debridement techniques according to clinical indications and professional competence. Exudate management: Assessing moisture balance, protecting surrounding skin, and selecting appropriate wound dressings. Limb preservation: Recognizing warning signs requiring urgent vascular, diabetic foot, surgical, or multidisciplinary assessment. Timely referral: Knowing when a patient's condition requires expertise beyond the treating professional's scope. Patient education and continuity: Supporting adherence, follow-up, prevention, and long-term wound management. Certification is not simply permission to display a logo. It represents a commitment to clinical responsibility, continued professional development, and measurable standards of competence. Timely Referral: One of the Most Important Decisions in Wound Care One of the most serious and preventable failures in wound management is delayed referral. A wound may initially appear small or uncomplicated. However, underneath the skin, patients may have peripheral arterial disease, neuropathy, deep infection, uncontrolled pressure, or other conditions that prevent healing. In neuropathic patients, particularly those living with diabetes, pain may be absent even when significant tissue damage is developing. This makes early recognition and referral essential. Healthcare professionals must understand that continuing treatment without identifying the underlying cause can delay appropriate intervention. A patient with suspected acute limb ischemia, rapidly spreading infection, wet gangrene, or severe diabetic foot infection requires emergency assessment. Other concerning findings, including a new diabetic foot ulcer or suspected vascular insufficiency, require prompt specialist evaluation according to clinical guidelines. Referral is not a failure of treatment. Delayed referral can be a failure of clinical judgment. At WEC, we want to change the perception that referral means giving up responsibility. Referral means recognizing when another professional's expertise can protect the patient's health, mobility, and future. Our principle: Refer early. Preserve tissue. Protect the limb. The Neudebri® Philosophy: Preparation Is the Foundation At the heart of every WEC is the Neudebri® philosophy of systematic wound-bed preparation. We believe successful wound management begins with understanding the entire patient, not simply treating the visible wound. “Treat the whole, not only the hole.” Our clinical education emphasizes three commonly overlooked areas: Inadequate wound-bed preparation: Failure to assess and appropriately remove non-viable tissue when indicated. Poor exudate management: Failure to maintain an appropriate moisture balance and protect the wound edges and surrounding skin. Delayed referral: Failure to recognize when specialist intervention is necessary. The Neudebri® Eco-Kit is being developed to support an integrated approach to cleansing, debridement, skin care, and moisture management, with each product used only according to its approved indications, regulatory status, and supporting clinical evidence. The Neudebri® CARE-FIT-R™ framework provides a structured approach to clinical decision-making, treatment planning, evaluation, follow-up, and referral. Importantly, no single instrument, dressing, or product can replace vascular assessment, infection management, pressure relief, appropriate medical treatment, or multidisciplinary care. Why Uniformity Matters Across Countries Healthcare systems differ from country to country, but fundamental principles of safe wound care should remain consistent. Our ambition is to establish recognizable WEC standards so that a patient visiting a certified partner in Belgium, Kenya, or the Philippines can expect a consistent approach to assessment, clinical documentation, patient education, and referral decisions. Each certified WEC partner will be expected to follow common requirements for: Standardized clinical training and competency verification. Consistent assessment and wound documentation. Evidence-informed wound management and infection prevention. Appropriate use of authorized medical devices and products. Clearly defined referral pathways and emergency escalation. Patient safety, informed consent, and confidentiality. Continuing education, quality improvement, and periodic competency review. Local professional licensing, national regulations, and institutional clinical governance will always take precedence. Uniformity does not mean treating every wound identically. It means applying the same standards of clinical reasoning while individualizing care for every patient. Making Referral Easier for Patients and Healthcare Professionals One of the long-term objectives of the WEC network is to create an international directory of verified Neudebri® Certified Partners. This network would help patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare providers identify appropriately trained wound-care professionals. A future WEC referral platform could allow users to search by country, location, available expertise, and referral services. For healthcare professionals, the network would support communication and continuity between primary care, specialized wound services, diabetic foot teams, vascular specialists, and hospitals. For patients, it would provide a clearer pathway toward appropriate assessment and treatment. Our vision is to reduce unnecessary delays, prevent avoidable complications, and support limb preservation through better professional collaboration. Special Focus: Neuropathic Wounds and Limb Preservation Neuropathic wounds deserve particular attention because patients may not recognize the severity of an injury. Loss of protective sensation, repeated pressure, deformity, poor footwear, and impaired circulation can contribute to ulcer development and complications. WEC Certified Partners will receive focused education in neuropathic wound assessment, diabetic foot risk recognition, offloading principles, monitoring, and referral. The aim is not only to help wounds heal, but also to address the factors that cause them to develop or recur. Saving a limb begins before amputation becomes a possibility. It begins with screening, education, prevention, timely assessment, and appropriate referral. Our International Vision The WEC Certified Partner Network is intended to connect professionals who believe that wound care must go beyond changing dressings. Through Neudebri® Academy education, competency assessment, shared protocols, and international collaboration, we aim to build a recognizable network of wound expertise. Our future WEC partners will represent more than a brand. They will represent a professional commitment to patient safety, clinical competence, early intervention, and continuity of care. We envision a world where geography does not prevent patients from finding qualified wound-care support. Where healthcare professionals are encouraged to collaborate rather than work in isolation. And where referral is recognized as an essential part of responsible wound management. One Network. One Standard. One Commitment.
